One thing patients should know
about me:
I am not from around here. I was born and raised in Kokomo...
Kokomo, Indiana that is. I have been in Kansas City for about three
years and I love it.
Why do you work at the Mercy &
Truth Birth Center:
Mercy & Truth fits me. I have had jobs that I have enjoyed but not
felt comfortable to be myself. At Mercy & Truth I can be real and I
can do the job I love. I am passionate about the childbirth
experience. At Mercy & Truth I am able to meet clients at the
beginning of their pregnancy and continue to care for them and their
baby through at least the first 6 weeks of life. There is no other
nursing job that I know of where I could have this role.
How do you feel when a baby is
born here:
When I am able to part of a birth, I feel honored. The birth
experience is a very intimate time for the family and being a part
of that experience is something I try not to take for granted. I
often explain to people who request to 'observe' a birth that being
in the birth room is a very special privilege. If you are in that
room, it is because the family requests you have role at the birth.
There is no 'observation' allowed.
